Mike Cunningham is an accomplished Fortune 50 business leader with over 30 years of experience delivering high growth to healthcare, pharma, insurance, and finance companies. Known for his ability to find solutions when none are obvious and for building and leading teams in demanding situations, Mike has engineered and executed large-scale strategic and operational turnarounds, delivering rapid results and achieving sustainable change.
Most recently, Mike served as the Chief Commercial Officer for OptumRx, a $95 billion division of UnitedHealth Group, where he worked for 18 years. In this role, he was instrumental in driving growth and overseeing the commercial strategy of the division. Prior to this, he served as Chief Operating Officer of Growth for Optum, leading double-digit organic growth for over eight years and developing over $30 billion in accelerated organic revenue.
Before his tenure at Optum, Mike was the President and COO for United Healthcare National Accounts, where he managed a $10 billion P&L and achieved a 100% increase in clients and a 500% increase in members. His leadership history also includes roles such as Global Sales/SVP for BGS (now Lionbridge Technologies), SVP for Guardian Life, CEO at Gemkey.com, President/SVP Retail Finance Division with Standard & Poor’s, and VP/Director with Automatic Data Processing.
In addition to his roles in corporate leadership, Mike specializes in managing and succeeding in hyper-growth environments, supporting ideation, pipeline, and business development. He excels in integrating M&A acquisitions, optimizing private equity investments, realigning P&L segments, and leading performance-based human capital campaigns. He is adept at building data and information programs, assembling data analytics teams, and developing insights with a massive and broad-reaching impact.
Mike holds a B.S. in Economics from Temple University and an MBA in MIS from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He has also completed Executive Leadership programs at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and UVA’s Darden School of Business.
