Lorraine Hutzler is an accomplished healthcare executive with extensive experience in quality improvement, data analytics, and organizational change within major academic medical institutions. She currently serves as the Chief Clinical Officer at AvalonAI, where she brings her expertise to drive clinical strategy and patient safety initiatives.
Before joining AvalonAI, Lorraine was the Associate Director of the Center for Quality and Patient Safety at NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital. In this role, she designed, built, and maintained a robust quality infrastructure for the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, significantly enhancing patient outcomes and experience. Among her key initiatives were a hospital-wide protocol for universal Hepatitis C screening and treatment, efforts to improve patient satisfaction across all experience measures, and the safe return and disposal of unused opioid medications at all orthopedic patient sites.
Lorraine is also a founding partner of Labrador Healthcare Consulting Services LLC, a consulting firm that helps medical facilities and physician practices develop patient safety and quality infrastructure, as well as bundled payment initiatives. Additionally, she teaches healthcare management courses as an Adjunct Professor at New York University and is a reviewer for the Journal for Healthcare Quality. Her professional memberships include the Association of Healthcare Quality, Connecticut Association of Healthcare Executives, American College of Medical Quality, and National Association for Healthcare Quality.
In addition to her professional roles, Lorraine is actively involved with Johns Hopkins University, serving as an Alumni Leader for the New York City Healthcare Affinity Group, a member of the Second Decade Society, and a Mentor for the Business Plan Competition.
Lorraine holds a BA in Economics from Johns Hopkins University and a Master’s in Public Administration in Health Policy and Management from New York University. She is also Lean Sigma/Six Sigma certified.
